‘To be an actor you have to have a certain amount of madness within you’
As we move into February, we have our final information about the pantomime. Thank you to those who came along, and we very much hope you enjoyed the show as much as we did. We managed to make £800 in profit and, although unsurprisingly less than in previous years with the impact of Covid being apparent, this is still an impressive amount considering the circumstances. The profits from the raffle will be split and donated to the church fund – for the upkeep of the building – and the Hitchin Partnership, a charity recommended by Nancy Adshead from St Paul’s Walden School, which provides support to local families in need. We will also continue to support the Toddler Group, which runs in the village hall once a week. For any new mums out there, it is a fantastic opportunity to get together and have a coffee and chat with fellow parents.
As we move into spring, our thoughts turn to summer productions. We are holding our AGM on Sunday 6 February at 6.00pm. Please keep an eye our social media pages (facebook/whitwelldrama and @whitwellplayers on Instagram) for the meeting location. If you are interested in coming along we would love to see you.
As is normal at this time in the year, we have had some members stand down from the committee, and we sincerely thank them for their drive and commitment, especially during a difficult time for theatres and amateur dramatic groups. We are always keen to welcome new members: it is a great way to get involved in a village group, meet fellow villagers and be a part of the Whitwell Players. It is also a chance for you to get involved in future productions, whether this be physically or behind the scenes. You might be someone who can balance books or run a website – you would be surprised by the number of ways in which you could get involved.
Watch this space and our social media pages for forthcoming productions, key dates and meeting locations. We, like you, are looking forward to an exciting year of endless performance possibilities.
There’s a place for everyone at the Whitwell Players. As well as performers and directors, we are always on the look-out for people who want to get involved backstage, whether set design and build, sound, lighting, or stage management. We also need people with promotional and organisational skills on the production side, and people front of house.
